I'm 70 years old and for most of those years, tamales were one of my very favorite foods. I've sampled them across the Southwest and in other parts of the country. They are different, in as much as they have a pure Mexican tamale taste without the overpowering effect of masa that so many tamales have. I first ate a tamale made from this recipe not long after World War II, as a young lad. A Mr. Carpenter had a little red cart from which he sold his tamales for 20 cents a dozen on the "jockey lot" in McKinney, Texas, on Saturdays. I loved them then, and the current owners of this secret recipe still make them the same, and they are still as good as ever. If you like Tamales and ever get near Trenton, Texas, stop and buy a dozen of these to try 'em out. But don't leave until you've enjoyed one, because when you do, you're sure to go back in and buy more. These are the best tamales on planet Earth!
