I started experiencing back pain about 5 years ago. It progressed to the point where I needed help. I met Dr. Schuler about two years ago. He took a very serious methodical approach to my diagnosis. As he is a surgeon I was expecting the need for surgery. That was not the case. Surgery was the last option on Dr. Schuler's list. He took a conservative approach starting with physical therapy. It helped but not enough to live an active life style. After further testing we discovered I was a good candidate for Regenerative Stem Cell Therapy. I'm at my six month mark with minimal pain, some days no pain at all. Dr. Schuler and his staff are in my opinion the best of the best and I am forever great full to them.

Dr. Schuler and his team explain the spinal procedure, recovery, etc., in great detail. I know they are invested in my health/recovery and I never feel rushed through a visit. The spinal fusion eliminated my pain and need to use a cane. I cannot be happier and recommend him often. I am so grateful!

I have had a great experience with Dr. Schuler. He completed my Cervical fusion in 2010 and I returned in 2018 for Lumbar fusion. In the office, he reviewed my films and outlined his expectations and treatment plans His care both in and out of surgery has been exemplary! The entire team including the office staff are phenomenal. His Physician Assistants are knowledgeable, friendly and and skilled. I would highly recommend Dr Schuler for any spinal concerns.

After a disappointing experience with another provider, I came to Dr. Schuler for a second opinion and I am so thankful I did. If I'd followed my original doctor's recommendation, I would have gone through surgery and had little to no pain relief. Now, only 3 months after my fusion, my back pain is gone and I'm looking forward to getting back to the activities I enjoy.

Six months ago I was soliciting opinions from spinal surgeons and was not happy with the prognosis. Both doctors I saw gave me a brief overview, talked about the hardware going in my back, and gave me a long term recovery. I heard about Virginia Spine and decided to see if they had anything different (not expecting it to be so since the other two doctors agreed). Dr. Shuler sat with me and went through my XRays, my MRI, and with a plastic spine to show me the problem areas. He laid out the process very clearly and gave me a timeline that was half of the other doctors. The process has been amazing and he demonstrates genuine care about my recovery. His team is TOP NOTCH as well. He made the other surgeons look like they were performing 18th century medicine. I am now 4 months out and leading a pretty normal life. I would recommend Dr. Shuler and Virginia Spine to anyone with spinal issues. You will not find a better place or person to help you!!

I am currently one month post op from my L4-L5 SI fusion and I never thought I could feel this great. A car accident had me feeling like I was going to have to change my lifestyle due to my injuries. I had a lot of back work done during my surgery, 2 disc replacements, a fusion and a brace. I am 4 months post surgery and feeling much better. I cant wait to have have the brace out, The recovery is much better and faster than I expected. He even referred me to other doctors for other issues that is not back related.

I have been with Dr. Nguyen since he started with the VSI. If it weren't for his care and balancing of my pain meds I would not be up and walking. It is due to his compassion and skill that I am as mobile as I am. He is willing to to get emails from me (at 3 am), shifts my meds in bad times, and is my rock when the pain tries to overtake my life. He is the only medical professional that I trust my very life to. What a gift he is to those of us who need a great PM Doc.

I have been a patient of VSI for over ten years. For me, the surgery was literally a miracle allowing me to regain my active life.

I had suffered from low back and neck pain my entire life. I'm not one to jump into surgery and willing to try all other therapies first. I followed all instructions regarding my care (exercise, PT, injections) unfortunately at some point you have to accept the fact that your body mechanics aren't working. Although you never want to hear you need surgery, the doctors and staff at VSI took the time to explain every detail. Their follow-up and professionalism is unmatched in our healthcare system.

Dr Nguyen changed my life. Words will never convey the depths of my gratitude yet I'll try so that others will be lucky enough to experience his first rate phenomenal care. Dr Nguyen isn't just brilliantly knowledgeable as a physician, he's also unbelievably empathetic and compassionate, which sadly is a rare combination. He spends time actually listening to patients& genuinely cares. Highly recommended isn't even suffice! He is an amazing Dr and even stays on top of new findings in medicine!

I tried several months of conservative treatment and came to the point that I had no choice but to see a surgeon. I was very apprehensive and concerned about the long-term effects of having spinal surgery. The entire team was fantastic, and Dr. Schuler spent more time with me that I expected.
