Poor Service, Food Mediocre

My husband and I were in Gruene for our anniversary and Mother's Day weekend. We stopped in to have brunch on Mother's Day. We were seated very quickly, the staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was nice which is why I rated them 2 stars. We arrived at 12:00 and my husband has a surprise couples massage scheduled for us at 1:30. I understand it was Mother's Day and we probably should have gotten there a little earlier but they were not that busy. There were open tables throughout the restaurant. There was no line or waiting list. It took about 10 minutes for our server to get our drink orders (water w/lemon) and another 10 minutes for him to serve them and take our order. We waited and waited for our food. The server did bring us some bread while we waited, which I thought should have been done without asking but at least we had something to do for the next 45 minutes. We explained our time limitations and he just said the kitchen was backed up because of Mother's Day yet we didn't see anyone getting their food in the area we were seated in. We asked for milk and orange juice to be served with our meal which was served early in anticipation of our food delivery but is was another 30 minutes. The orange juice was not chilled to begin with so by the time our food arrived it was warm. I added ice to the glass but that merely watered it down. When the food finally arrived, my french toast was barely warm, soggy in the center, and my fruit was warm. Not just room temperature, but warm. My husband took a bite of one the manderin sections and immediately spit it out. For the price and ambiance, my expectations are far higher than the experience we had. Maybe it was just off day for them, but we won't be back.
