When you first sign up for charter you get great speeds. But as the months go on the speeds get worse and worse. They are advertising 12mbs right now and my speeds have been around 3mbs. So I asked them to send a tech, which the guy on the online chat just brushed aside. He tells me he'll run a few tests and like magic my speeds are back. A day or so goes by and my speeds are back down. They are throttling my speeds I'm sure, since I use a lot, between Netflix and online gaming. I don't exceed my limit though. So if you do get Charter don't expect to get what you pay for.

Gaming enthusiasts may want to consider using a different provider. Charter's service goes down in small bursts of several seconds multiple times per day. Internet browsing would not be affected by this, but losing connection in an online game even for a few seconds causes the game to exit to the login screen or close completely in most popular games. Anyone serious about gaming or competing online should not get Charter. Their service is not stable enough to rely upon where a consistently unbroken connection is required.

Been suffering from poor internet service for 5 days now. Every call to support has been reboot the modem / somebody is working on it / we'll send somebody out at $35 per hour / best one, your modem is out of date. Like any cable company, it's a local monopoly and higher rates for nothing. TV is fine unless it's a major storm then that's dead until the storm passes. And every week Ads for their services. Why spend for ads when providing good service will get more customers.

I'm going to be generous and give them a deuce. I've rarely had a problem with their service, but I agree that their voice activated customer service is a real pain in the rear. My main gripe is that their rates are just getting rediculous. I've been with them for decades and everytime I turn around, their rates are going up again. Their excuse is always that a "promotion" just ended. Sometimes, I'm able to talk them into another promotional rate, but eventually that will end too and then I can go thru all this B.S. again. I just got off the phone with them again regarding my mother's cable bill. All they would do for me is offer another package with more of what she doesn't want, for more money of course. I am now waiting for a return call from their competition. I just switched my own cable/internet over and have an idea I will be doing the same with hers.

Can be as fast as they advertise, but its sort of like gambling you'll every once in while but most of the time you lose. Charter is extremely unreliable and the customer service is terrible. Write now I'm using my Sprint 4G wifi hotspot because the latency on a wireless device is faster and infinitely more reliable than Charter's land line. I don't know about Sprint's customer service but that's because nothing has ever gone wrong. This is my current internet situation. Charter latency is 200-1000ms at any given time with an occasional 10-20 minutes of highspeed 20-30ms. Sprint latency 90-120 always extremely reliable and consistent. Charter download speed is 4-12mbs paying for 12mbs but that means nothing if the latency is 800ms. Sprint download speed is 2-4mbs.

Horrible service! Horrible company. Too many glitches in internet and cable. Internet would go out when needed most. Customer service unhelpful and took forever to actually talk to someone. Charge ridiculous fee for cancellation but it was worth it to not have to deal with them anymore! Still had to return THEIR equipment back to them yet still pay too even though they brought it.

If I could go negative on the stars it'd be about -10. I am only able to use charter in the building I live in or I'd use something else even if their service was 14.4 dial up. Charter's service has been down completely more than 15% of the last year, up and down more than 60% of what's left, working correctly less than 12% and less than half the speed they claim I'm getting the rest of the time. I put up with it for the first few months trying to work with them to resolve the issue but after more than 30 tech visits who already knew what was wrong before showing up and only bothered to look till they found some proof that they could be right rather than find the real issue.. I started insisting on credit for my interrupted service (something they wouldn't give prior to demanding and fighting for it) I've paid less than $80 total over the last 6 months of a normally $100 monthly bill... $80 of $600 says they know they are in trouble and trying to get what ever they can out of it

horrible internet service and alway blaming something else except themselves - paid for the last 9 months for 8 meg speeds and never received more than 2 consistantly. Finaly 9 month later the technition admitted there is no 8 here in calif city possible

These people don't even deserve the one star I'm required to give to write this review. They lie, they promise, they lie again, they make more promises, and their Internet isn't even reliable! For all the drama they could at least provide fast reliable internet speeds! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

I have had Charter Internet/cable for years....I am now searching for new service! My bill keeps increasing. I called to try to change plans and customer service were not helpful at all. I have been very unsatisfied with them and do not recommend them to anyone!!!!

Can I not give them less than 1 star? Fine. We signed up for Charter in late May this year (it's late August now) and not quite every day, but almost every day the internet goes out for a few minutes several times, like tonight it went out three times in two hours, that's the norm. Now, it going out for a few minutes isn't the worst thing in the world, but I have things to do on the internet, and I like to play Madden online too, so a constant internet connection is pretty important, at least for a few hours a day, which we don't get. I've called four times and twice they've simply told me that their tests on my modem are running fine at the moment and tried to end the conversation with that, the other two times they've sent out technicians who have done everything from setting up a brand new modem to trying to run every single cable power outlet in the house into the modem to give it full power (why wasn't it doing that already? Doesn't matter because the internet didn't improve)

Horrible service. DO NOT USE. We had Charter for both cable and internet and they've both beed dreadful. In the space of 6 months, we had 4 different DVR boxes because they kept breaking down and losing all of their programing. The one that finally did work was so old and the interface so cumbersome (like not being able to search for a show!!) that we never used it. Finally we got rid of it and only kept the DSL, but that's been horrible too. When it works, it's great -- but about every 3-4 months, I have to have a service call to get it working again. I've never in my life had such a horrible experience with either a cable company OR an internet provider -- these guys are the worst of both!!!

I wish I read these reviews before signed up with Charter. They overcharged and didn't want to correct their errors. Customers service is the worst. No one wanted to take responsibility and throwing you around. Watch your bills go up for no reason.

I've had intermittent or nonexistent service for 2 weeks now, and every time I call Charter (which is daily) they always tell me, "There's an outage in your area." Their service is horrible.

We recently signed up with Charter for internet service. They overcharged first time around and have yet to credit what they owe us. At present, between my husband and I, have spent approx. four hours on the phone and they are clueless - still no reimbursement for so-called "free router and modem" and no credit for overcharge on monthly charge. I am presently looking into other options; don't care if can't get the same speed at this point, I'm done with Charter. BEWARE BEFORE SIGNING UP WITH CHARTER.

Worst customer service ever. Check your bill every month as they randomly decide to up bill at anytime. Service is down a lot too.

Save yourself the agony and frustration of dealing with this company. If I could give them zero stars I would. Charter has the worst customer service I've experience in the last 30 years. Everything in their business is designed for their benefit, makes it unbelievably difficult to process requests for the customers benefit. I've been 'chatting" with them for 2 hours online now just trying to go from online statements to paper again. Guess what, they need the info from the paper statement to cancel online statement and start paper statements again. Shopping for another ISP now.
