A graduate of Harvard College (magna cum laude) at Harvard University, and Tufts University, Dr. Helm is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, with a subspecialty certification in pain medicine. He has been practicing interventional pain management since 1982. A qualified medical evaluator, Dr. Helm works as a consultant and expert witness for multiple organizations. He serves in leadership positions with state-wide and national pain management societies, publishes, and lectures extensively. Dr. Helm has extensive experience with medical legal work, including both plaintiff and defense work. Dr. Helm has expertise in all areas of interventional pain management, including complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), also known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), implantable devices, interventional procedures and opioid management. Dr. Helm has worked with a standard of care issues, causation, apportionment, appropriateness of care and future medical care relating to interventional pain management. He has had experience in many venues, including state and municipal courts and regulatory agencies including medical boards and district attorneys offices. Dr. Helm has published extensively about the safety of procedures and standard of care issues.

Dr helm was the one who pointed out that my lower right back pain was caused by the SI joint.Other people were treating my hern. lumbar disks withe tons of epidurals that seem to be in the wrong area .

I have struggled with back pain most of my adult life. When i came to see Dr. Helm he offered long lasting solutions other than just medication management. I was diagnosed with Lupus last year and between Elia and Dr. Helm my pain is manageable and I am getting my life back. Dr. Helm's staff is patient, caring, and kind. The office is neat, and I never spend more than 15 minuets waiting for appointment with any doctor i come to see. I would strongly recommend this doctor for people in pain.
Dr Helm has been treating me for my Nerve Damage & I am young to have this condition & he is just an exceptional doctor. I even trust completely with my 18 year old daughter who suffers from Endometriosis. He has the biggest heart, and he is very patient and kind with his patients.
He is one doctor who will be hard to replace should he ever retire! :( He truly is not just my doctor, but a family confidante and resource, with whom I truly respect and admire.
