      General Info
      James Benner, MD, specializes in cardiac (heart), thoracic (lung) and vascular (blood vessel) repair work. Dr. Benner attended medical school at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of South Carolina, RMH in Columbia, and thoracic surgery residencies at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C. He is board certified in cardiac, vascular and thoracic surgery. The precision and attention to detail are what attract me and keep me enjoying surgery, as well as seeing the patients do so well. It's very rewarding says Dr. Benner, who is also chief of cardiac surgery for Trident Health Dr. Benner also enjoys sharing his work with his six children who have grown up visiting his practice. In his spare time, he is an avid cyclist and is a South Carolina state master's cycling champion.
