Dr . C. Mark Thigpen received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Georgia Southern University in 1974 and graduated from Augusta University in 1978. He completed his internship in general and orthopedic surgery residency at Augusta University. He completed a Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Adult reconstructive fellowship in foot and ankle with Donald E. Baxter, MD in Houston, TX. This was followed with a second Orthopedic Foot and Ankle fellowship with Roger A. Mann, MD in Oakland, CA in 1983. Dr Thigpen began his Orthopedic career in 1983 when he joined with doctors Myron D.F. Collins MD and Robert L. Brand MD. His practice has evolved into special interest of the lower extremity, joint resurfacing of the knee and ankle. He has focused on adult and adolescent foot and ankle reconstruction, sports medicine of the foot and ankle, to include total joint arthroplasty, Arthroscopic ankle ligament reconstruction, percutaneous achilles tendon repair and extensive hind, mid and fore foot reconstruction.

He genuinely is concerned about his work and that is important when choosing a doctor that is going to perform surgery.
Injected knee after X-ray .. made sure I had no pain . Ordered tests and return visit
Always listens and goes out of his way to give me the best care possible. He even called to check on me on his personal cell phone. You just don’t find doctors that do that. I was very impressed.
Used model to help me clearly understand prognosis
I’ve had 3 surgeries with Dr. Thigpen over a 10 year period including both bunions and an OCD lesion repair to my ankle. All of my recoveries went well. He make very tidy incisions that heal so beautifully. My broken ankle was a bit of a mess but he cleaned it up and it’s pain free. He's a popular guy so you may a wait but it’s worth it. All of the support staff in his office are friendly and knowledgable.

Dr. Thigpen is caring, precise and direct. He explained everything that was going on with me and answered whatever questions that I had for him
My family and I love Dr. Thigpen. Sad that he’s retiring in June but wish him the best.
Dr. Thigpen explained two options for surgery and gave me a clear understanding of which procedure was best for me.
Had a total knee replacement 6 October 2020. Dr Thigpen took excellent care of me and I had a positive recovery.
The provider listen to everything I was saying. He repeated things I said to let me know he was listening. He was polite asked questions and seemed concerned.
No complaints!
