DETAILS
General Info
In 1850, William Harrison founded the funeral home. In those days people brought strings the length of the body, and coffins were made to order. His furniture and undertaking parlor was located in the Romer Bakery Building in Maquoketa. The current location of the funeral home was established in the 1930's. The three-generation business was sold in 1950 to James F. O'Hara & George Haylock, area residents and funeral directors. They operated the business until their retirements. The Lahey family purchased the business from the Haylock-O'Hara families in 1988. Hayden Funeral Home was established in Oxford Junction, Iowa in 1918, by Clyde Hayden. In 1942, his son, Lewis Hayden, joined the firm and in 1943, Lewis purchased the business. In 1963, Clyde 's grandson, Lynn Hayden, joined the firm and in 1977, Lynn purchased the business. Donald Woodley joined the firm in 1986, and became Lynn 's partner in 1993. Wallace Funeral Home at Wyoming was purchased, and in 1988, the Malamphy Funeral Home at Lost Nation was purchased, for a total of four Hayden Funeral Home locations.
