For more than 35 years, Belk Park Golf Course has been one of the premier golf courses in the state of Illinois. In 1953, the city of Wood River, Ill., received a land donation from the Belk family of more than 200-acres to create an 18-hole championship public golf course and park. The golf course draws more than 50,000 visitors annually through tournaments, open play and special events. The events include junior golf academy, son or daughter scramble, Belk Park two-man scramble, couples classic and metro east amateur championship. The course s season officially opens in April and ends in September, with play continuing throughout the fall and winter seasons. Its banquet facility hosts a variety of events, including wedding receptions, business meetings, parties and special occasions.
