Operational for more than 40 years, R + L Carriers is a family-owned motor freight carrier. It operates a fleet of more than 12,000 tractors and trailers. The company provides hazardous material transportation and jet services. It operates Robert s Truck Parts, which is a parts and service division that offers 24-hour field services. R + L Carriers also offers packing, shipping, moving and warehousing solutions. It serves clients in the United States, Canada Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. R&L Carriers committed to pick-up a shipping crate of personal belongings (an apartment's worth of stuff) at my family's home; they told us to just leave it in the driveway and they would take care of it. When the truck arrived, it had one older man operating it and attempting to load the crate. We luckily had five people in the house (most of them 100-pound women) and he had us help load it, asking for several two-by-fours and trying to teach us to operate a pallet jack in the process. The crate was often precariously positioned and we had no idea whether it would fall on us or just fall and damage property. If we hadn't had five people available, or hadn't had two-by-fours, R&L Carriers would have been completely unable to perform the pickup they promised. As it was, they were unable to do so safely or quickly.
The delivery person was quite rude and uncooperative, frankly his conduct was disgraceful.
We got a knock on the door around 11am, the delivery person placed the shipment behind our garage, blocking the car inside. We told him we'll move the car out of the way so he can put the delivery in the garage, but he told us impatiently to move it in ourselves, and that he'll charge us $60 to move it three feet out of the way.
My mother is an elderly that needs the car to go to work and I have a back condition preventing me from lifting heavy objects, but he didn't care, wouldn't even wait a single minute for us to resolve the situation, he just wanted to drop the package and get out of there, customer be damned.
He also lied to us about signing before inspecting the package, claiming that we can return the product if damaged and the signature is just a confirmation of safe delivery. He was in a hurry for us to sign his paperwork and then became rude and extremely uncooperative after getting it.
Quite unprofessional, I hope this is not indicative of overall company culture.
Such poor quality of service simply boggles my mind.
