- Dental ExaminationWe are glad you have made the decision to join us at Wetherill Family Dentistry! A first visit to the practice will typically include a comprehensive dental examination, including x-rays. Both the dental exam and the x-rays will allow Dr. Wetherill to assess your overall dental health.
- X-rays
- Oral Cancer ScreeningRegular checkups include a thorough cleaning by the hygienist, followed by a complete dental exam by Dr. Wetherill. At regular intervals, x-rays will be taken of your teeth to check for decay or other latent defects. During the oral exam, Dr. Wetherill gives a thorough oral cancer screening and checks the health of your mouth: teeth, gums, cheeks, and tongue. At each visit, he also examines the integrity of old fillings and restorations, since constant pressure from chewing, grinding, or clenching can cause them to wear away, chip, or crack.
- Teeth CleaningThe typical initial visit envisions a comprehensive dental examination, with x-rays as needed, so that Dr. Wetherill can assess your overall dental health and work with you to best craft an optimal treatment plan for you. However, we are certainly able to couple this initial exam with a thorough dental cleaning or other service, as warranted by the situation.
- Dental SealantsIn general, “preventive dentistry” refers to exactly what its name suggests: dentistry designed to prevent problems from developing or worsening. Preventive care includes routine cleanings, exams, and x-rays. In addition, sealants may be applied to prevent cavities from forming in certain teeth. - Resin CompositeNewer dental restoratives include ceramic and plastic compounds that mimic the appearance of natural teeth. These compounds, often called composite resins, are often used on the front teeth where a natural appearance is important. They can be used on the back teeth as well depending on the location and extent of the tooth decay.
- VeneersPorcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front side of teeth. Typically a dental technician makes them in a dental lab, working from a model provided by Dr. Wetherill.
- CrownsAlso called “caps,” crowns are constructed of gold, porcelain, or both. Crowns are durable restorations that completely cover individual teeth in order to conceal cracked, decayed, discolored, or chipped teeth. A crown is made to to match the shape, size, and color of your teeth, thereby giving you a natural, beautiful smile. In addition to enhancing the appearance of your teeth, a crown also provides added support to structurally deficient teeth. A crown strengthens and protects the tooth structure when it cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
- BridgesA fixed dental bridge is a non-removable appliance often used to replace missing teeth. The traditional bridge is usually made of porcelain fused to metal. It consists of two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth and are attached to artificial teeth, filling or “bridging” the gap created by one or more missing teeth. Dental bridges are highly durable and will last many years.
- Dental BondingChipped, misaligned, or stained teeth can often be quickly and easily fixed with dental bonding. During the dental bonding process, Dr. Wetherill uses a durable, tooth-colored composite resin to fill cracks and gaps, reshape teeth, and conceal stains to restore your smile’s natural beauty. After applying thin layers of the bonding material to the area, the resin is cured using a specialized lamp, which hardens the resin for strong, long-lasting results. The resin is custom tinted to match the exact shade of your teeth, the results are excellent, and the dental bonding is virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth. The versatility of dental bonding is unsurpassed; moreover, compared to other cosmetic procedures, the cost is relatively economical. When you come in for your appointment with Dr. Wetherill, we can discuss any improvements we can make to your smile with bonding and inform you of the results you can expect to see.
- Restorative DentistrySmiles and eyes are the two things people notice most about a face. With dentistry’s many advances, you no longer have to settle for stained, chipped, or misshapen teeth. You have choices that can help you smile with confidence, and Wetherill Family Dentistry is excited to help you restore a healthy and positive smile. Talk to Dr. Wetherill about the options most suitable for you, what your hopes and expectations are, and the factors or variables involved.
- Root Canal TreatmentInside each tooth is the pulp and the nerve. In the past, if you had a tooth with a diseased nerve, you would probably lose that tooth. Today, with a special dental procedure called root canal treatment, you may save that tooth. When the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection, root canal therapy is needed to save the tooth. This involves removing bacteria and any decay, and then filling the resulting space with special medicated materials which restore the tooth to its full function.
- DenturesIf you’ve lost all of your natural teeth, whether from periodontal disease, tooth decay or injury, complete dentures can replace your missing teeth and your smile. Replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health. Without support from the denture, facial muscles sag, making a person look older. You’ll be able to eat and speak—things that people often take for granted.
- Dental ImplantsDr. Wetherill is pleased to discuss with you the available options for tooth replacement, and offer recommendations as to which option would best suit your needs. In any case, the success of any bridge or implant depends on its the foundation to which it is attached. Therefore, it is very important to keep your remaining teeth, gums, and jaw healthy and strong.
