I've been a patient of his since about 2009. He was highly recommended to me. My first visit I had an extreme emotional breakdown. Right off the bat he *assessed* me as *BiPolar I*, that very first day.
Back story, but you can skip to the coupe de grace at the end if you want; Basically I worked in retail wage slavery (USA's condoned *indentured servitude*. I've been treated horribly by *guests* at various jobs I had to endure just to survive. I sucked it all up emotionally for 20+ years. From the early 90s to 1997 I was stalked by a paranoid schizophrenic who I couldn't even fight against in any way legally because not only was this stalker an EXPERIENCED one (I was not his first victim or his last) but I had no money and no support from anyone else to help me fight him. As far as I know this criminal is still on the loose. Anyhow. I was also constantly bullied from the time I entered the public education system to the time I graduated from high school. I've been abused physically, emotionally and psychologically by family members when I was growing up as well, including having been uprooted constantly to different living places against my will. I AM VERY INTELLIGENT- I have fought hard enough to convince myself of the reality that my testing scores over the years confirmed. I am now 43 and looking at pretty much a dead end in my life (everyone constantly reminds me of how much more important THEIR needs are compared to mine)...
THE COUPE DE GRACE;
I went to see Ivins YESTERDAY, actually, after a particularly rough weekend (9/11 anniversary- I saw the horror happen that day in 2001, I have a friend fighting a terminal disease, and my CONSTANT nightmares)...because I was short-tempered with him, he immediately THREATENED me with having me committed to a loony bin because I was *a danger to myself and others*. Okayyyy. Um, I thought I still had the right to Free Speech- but oh, I've been assessed as *insane*. So I guess that denies my rights under the US Constitution to voice my displeasure with him to him.
I asked him if there were any mental disorders associated with severe nightmares. He answered *a few*, but didn't bother to elaborate. So just 15 minutes ago (since I've been suspecting my REAL issue is PTSD related) I discovered online, *Complex-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder*...IT WAS ME. THIS IS WHAT I AM GOING THROUGH.

Explains in more detail. I will be looking for a different doctor now because I have lost all respect for him. His threatening me (which phased me not at all at this point because I am so used to being threatened I just don't care anymore- as in *flip the bird time*)...WAS THE LAST WAY HE SHOULD'VE HANDLED ME.

BTW- I am not a *substance* abuser. Though I can understand completely why there are people who do. My body is my temple.

Dr. Ivins is an extremely rude and obnoxious. He fancies himself as a Psychiatric genius which he quite often reminds you. It seems to me he has esteem issues and is very insecure. He also gives me the impression that he tries very hard to impart on you that he's more of what he wants to be then he actually is. He will explode if you do not agree with him. One of his retorts is that he does many speaking engagements and is an expert on every type of medication. A simple Google search shows no mention of any speaking events, no publications or even recognition by his peers for his self-proclaimed "expertise". He is not even a certified Psychiatrist. Also looking at his educational background, he graduated from some obscure university in Italy. His office facilities are not impressive. His cliental seem to be more of a lower socioeconomic status with substance abuse issues (I don't mean this to be offensive to the patients). I would highly recommend that you avoid this man.
