The Williamsburg Police Department works to preserve peace, deter criminal activities, and maintain law and order. It operates patrol, criminal investigation, juvenile operations, property management and crime prevention units. The department processes crime scenes, renders emergency first aid, assists the public during natural and precipitated disasters, enforces parking laws and serves legal documents. The Williamsburg Police Department s administrative division provides planning and research, crime analysis, collective bargaining, grievance and disciplinary procedures and fiscal management services to the department. It also has a communication center that responds to police, fire and medical emergency calls. The department supports Project Lifesaver and neighborhood watch programs.
