Rooted in a variety of communities, Visiting Nurse Services began in 1893. In 1969, representatives of numerous Westchester, N.Y., organizations consolidated into one freestanding nursing service, the Association of Visiting Nurse Services. It was joined in 1980 by several additional communities, changed its name to Visiting Nurse Services in Westchester and moved into its current White Plains, N.Y., headquarters. The company also has a sister agency, Westchester Care At Home, which is a private pay nursing service with home health aides, homemakers and respite care; the Ask The Visiting Nurse program; and a variety of community education programs. VNSW accepts Medicare, Medicaid, a variety of private and managed care insurances, workers compensation and no-fault compensation. The organization serves prenatal needs, infants, children, adolescents, adults and elderly with home health care. Some of the services provided by the company include requesting services, insurance and reimbursement plans covering VNSW services and hospice services.
