General Info
About James Ward Mr. James Ward was born in Ireland and immigrated to America when he was young. A turning point in his life came when he returned to Ireland to attend High School. "I never realized the opportunities that America had to offer until I was confronted with the lack of opportunity in another country". Mr. Ward stated. "I decided when 1 reached the age of sixteen that 1 would return to America and work hard to pursue the American Dream". Mr. James Ward started his development career by buying buildings in Essex and Union counties in need of complete rehabilitation. Many were shell buildings that had been abandoned or foreclosed by the municipality. These buildings were typically in low to moderate income areas of the counties. He formed his development company Ward & O'Donnell in 1985 and has owned and operated over 50 buildings in New Jersey including apartment, retail and office buildings. In 1997, Mr. Ward purchased buildings on East Broad Street in Westfield, New Jersey The buildings were renovated and the sizes were doubled by expanding into the back of the site. The retail portion is currently tenanted by national retailer Ann Taylor, Cold Stone Creamery and Classic Thyme. Mr. Ward created luxury apartments above, all containing high end finishes. One apartment, The James Ward Mansion, is over 10, 000 square feet and has become an attraction for catered social events such as weddings, company holiday parties and other various functions. In 1998, Mr. Ward purchased buildings on North Union Avenue in Cranford. Mr. Ward created luxury apartments above the buildings after getting permission to expand the former buildings footprint. On the ground floor is Redfield & Blonsky, a certified public accounting and investment firm. Above, are spacious luxury apartments with fireplaces and high end finishes. Mr. Ward also owns 101-103 North Union Avenue which was purchased in 1999. Since his ownership he has renovated the building for two new tenants Emma's Restaurant and Applegate Ice Cream Parlor. The renovation of Mr. Ward's buildings has been an ongoing part of downtown Cranford's revitalization. "The most exciting project that I am building at the moment is The Savannah, a 35 unit luxury condominium development in the heart of downtown Westfield. The units range from 1, 600 sq. ft. to over 3, 500 sq. ft. The Savannah will be the most desirable and luxurious property in New Jersey with prices ranging from $1, 000, 000 to over $1, 600, 000", Mr. Ward stated.Ward &' O'Donnell Property Development 12 West Elizabeth Avenue, NJ 07036 Linden 908-482-2450
