Located in Jamaica, N.Y., UFCW Local 1500 was chartered by the Retail Clerks Union in 1937. With over 22,000 members, it is one of the largest local unions in New York. It represents workers in Queens, Staten Island, Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties in New York. UFCW Local 1500 provides legal plans that offer coverage for adoption, bankruptcy immigration and wills. It also provides scholarships for members and their dependants. UFCW Local 1500 offers a pension plan for full- and part-time members. It also participates in a membership assistance program. UFCW Local 1500 s medical plans offer hospital and surgical coverage. It offers breast cancer awareness- and substance abuse prevention-related educational programs.
