      Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility entity. This means that the members control the cooperative, not the Missouri Public Service Commission. With its local control, the board of directors, who are elected by the members, can make decisions that are in the interest of the members and not someone in another part of the state. Howell-Oregon Electric is one of 39 cooperatives in Missouri. These cooperatives own six generation and transmission cooperatives. Sho-Me Power Corporation, headquartered in Marshfield, Mo., is Howell-Oregon's generation and transmission cooperative. Howell-Oregon, along with eight other rural electric cooperatives, is a member/owner of Sho-Me. Sho-Me owns the transmission lines and sub-stations that give Howell-Oregon its power. Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative was formed in 1939.
