I would not recommend Ms. Cermeno as a day care provider. Ms. Cermeno kicked my child out of her daycare of a Friday evening for no reason and she gave no formal warning. My rating is for the quality of care is “poor” based on my experiences with this woman. Please read below:

My son (2.5 years old) began daycare with Ms. Cermeno in June 2015. Per our agreement, which we reached at the end of June, my son was to continue in her daycare until he started school on his third birthday (Feb 2). Since my son started in Ms. Cermeno daycare, she made a number of insensitive comments to me that were racially motivated and mean. Below is an example of some of the insensitive comments she has made to me regarding myself and/or my son:

1. “You and (my son) don’t look Black/African because you don’t have big lips and big noses”; she then demonstrated on her face a caricature of big lips and a big nose: “from here to here.”

2. “(My son’s) breath is not like the other kids. It had a very bad odor. In the morning when it is just me and him and I pick him up, I smell it.”

3. In reference to my son’s dad spending time with his father: “Are you guys (referring to me and dad) back together? Because a man cannot just come and sleep and my house and we are not together.”

4. Referring to my son’s curly hair and the product that I use: “Can you stop putting that stuff in his hair. It gets everywhere (she shows me her high chair) and then the kids all touch it. They are not use to seeing a black kid and they always want to touch his hair.”

5. Referring to my son’s braids: “I like his hair better like that (braided). When you leave it long he looks like a girl.”

6. Referring to my hair when I straightened it: “That hairstyle doesn’t look good on you. I prefer to see you with curly hair.”

7. Referring to my sons overall progress: “I am not saying I am a teacher or a therapist, but I deserve all of the credit for (my son’s). He wasn’t like this before he started coming to my home.” Then I asked, “What about dad and me?” and she responded: “I deserve the credit.”

8. Referring to My son peeing on her Sofa d/t a mistake and either myself or dad forgetting to put underwear/a diaper on my son (btw this only happened once and there were several diapers in the baby bag; we are potty training my son): “So (my son) didn’t have a diaper on this morning. Are you trying something new? BC I don’t like pee on my sofa”

In the contract that she presented to me, Ms. Cermeno explicitly states that Parents should give a 2 week notice to discontinue services and that she, as the provider, is also required to give a 2 week notice if wishing to discontinue services. The only exception to this rule is non-payment and I have never ever paid late. On Friday, July 31st, at 4:30 pm, I learned that she decided to kick my son out of her daycare for no reason at all when I arrived, picked up his diaper bag, and found that it was extra heavy with all the supplies that I had given to her. When I asked Ms. Cermeno about this, her reply was, “Oh, I am no longer going to be providing daycare for (my son). I just don’t feel comfortable so you can just get off my property.” Ms. Cermeno kicked my child out of her daycare of a Friday evening for no reason and gave no formal warning.
