General Info
Welcome! We are a Montessori school with the resources, materials, and staff to provide the best education to the young children and to the families of San Dimas and surrounding communities. Our aim is to provide quality education to the children within the context of mutual respect and joy. We realize that creativity is an important tool in education and encourage developmentally appropriate creative activity. Our teachers are trained by AMS teacher training. The curriculum focuses on developing all aspects of a child's life and is based on well researched and proven techniques formulated by Dr. Maria Montessori. Through her experience and research she established the fact that "The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to age six." Our school Motto has been "We make learning fun" and that has been the key to our success here at CMC of Via Verde. Emotional Development - We address skills needed to be a positive member of community. We encourage children to accept and respect individual differences and likenesses and to share experiences with each other and with teachers and friends. We share with our children the joys of helping and giving as well as receiving and being helped. Physical Development - We encourage experiences that will develop large and small muscle coordination and motor skills.Intellectual Development - We encourage children to experience the joys of learning and the intrinsic satisfaction which comes with mastery of concepts and fundamental skills through the creative use of self correcting materials, group & individually focused exercises & activities. Curriculum: Practical Life Art is an integral part of the program. A variety of safe media is available such as easel painting, water color, clay, & crayons. Music is a part of our group time activities & involves singing, rhythm and movement. Music & Arts Children are naturally curious about themselves and the world around them. They are encouraged to observe the changes in the environment, explore animal, human, and plant life, experiment with the elements and with tools - air, water, wheels etc. Science The Montessori sensorial materials assist the child in learning to differentiate between sizes, shapes, colors, textures sounds and tastes. Through these activities the child learns to evaluate and find solutions to concrete problems. Our schools offer a wide variety of extra curricular activities including music lessons, dance lessons, computer lessons, swimming lessons, Spanish lessons and field trips to museums, the library, and other places which allow our kids to explore the world around them with their friends and teachers. SENSORIAL Children gain knowledge of the world of numbers and their functions through interactive manipulation of concrete Montessori materials. This knowledge is reinforced through play oriented activities such as building with blocks, measuring sand, water, or ingredients for cooking. Mathematics Reading, listening to stories, speaking, and writing are all important exercises in our language arts program. Children are encouraged to communicate their ideas and feelings through dramatic play, drawings, sharing time and eventually writing about their own experiences using tactile Montessori materials. They are also introduced to various languages from around the world. Extra Curricular Activities Our schools offer a wide variety of extra curricular activities including music lessons, dance lessons, computer lessons, swimming lessons, Spanish lessons and field trips to museums, the library, and other places which allow our kids to explore the world around them with their friends and teachers.
