      Tobey's Donut Shop is again owned and operated by the Tobey family, (Jeff Tobey, born & raised in Watkins, working as a baker from 1971-1982 with his Grandfather Harry at Tobe's Bake Shop on Franklin St and Tobey's Bakery on Lake St, Elmira with his Father Jerry. After Harry's retirement, Jerry moved Tobe's to the present location on 4th St. The business was sold outside of the family in 1998 where it continued to operate as "Tobes" but strayed from baking because the "secret" family donut recipe was too difficult and time consuming to compete with the huge commercial bakeries, "Tobes", under two different owners, began serving breakfast, lunch, and finally ice cream until closing for good around 2014. The property was sold, remodeled, and through a generous offer by his father Jerry, Jeff Tobey is attempting to resurrect the donut business as he remembers it, using the old family recipes. You can buy cheaper donuts elsewhere, but you'll be hard pressed to find one better!
