Bread for the City is a private, nonprofit organization that provides residents of Washington, D.C., with comprehensive services including food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services. The organization has more than 500 volunteers and thousands of volunteer community members, who serve over 10,000 people each month. Services offered by the organization include medical and legal clinic, clothing room, food pantry, social services, and representative payee program. Bread for the City has partnered with Unity Health Care, a nonprofit health care provider, and operates the medical and dental clinic at its Southeast center. It accepts clothing donations from individuals, schools, offices and places of worship that keeps its clothing room stocked with seasonally appropriate clothes for children and adults. The organization also provides a wide range of counseling, referral and case management services.
