J.F. Shea Company is a construction firm that operates through a family of subsidiaries, including Shea Homes, an award-winning builder of residential communities; Shea Properties, an investment real estate company; and Venture Capital, an investor in private startup companies. Together the subsidiaries manufacture condominiums, town homes and luxury estates; design homes, neighborhoods and communities; own and operate more than 5,000 apartment units and 2 million square feet of commercial real estate in California and Colorado; manage investments that have grown into such national companies as Compaq, Altera, Brocade and Exodus; and provide office construction, design/build and heavy civil engineering service. J.F. Shea was established in 1881 as a small plumbing operation and has since relocated its corporate headquarters to Walnut, Calif.
