Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is accredited by the National Recreation and Park Association. The department maintains and operates several playgrounds, picnic shelters, ball fields, and neighborhood, community and district parks. It supports a variety of sports activities, such as basketball, football, volleyball, softball and hockey. It organizes several recreational and cultural programs that include musical shows, craft festivals and health fairs. Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation operates golf courses, water facilities and tennis courts. The department also provides therapeutic recreational services to adults and children with mental and physical disabilities. It conducts art, craft, dancing and cooking classes.
