The Town of Vernon Fire Department provides fire, rescue, hazardous materials and emergency medical services. The department operates through more than five stations and has a professional staff of over 80 employees. It has a fleet of engines, heavy rescues vehicles, aerial trucks and ambulances. In addition, the department offers a full line of emergency management services and conducts annual disaster exercises. The department responds to fires, medical emergencies, incidents, and aircraft and rescue firefighting. It is operated by the town of Vernon, Conn., that also operates other departments, such as health and human services, emergency services, human resources, public works, and parks and recreation departments.
