Built in 1821, Ayrshire Farm specializes in sustainable agriculture and organic gardening. Based in Upperville, Va., the farm practices biodiversity through the management of animals, hedgerows, a large variety of heirloom/hybrid vegetables, herbs and fruits. Ayrshire Farm practices crop rotation for vegetables, field crops and a grazing rotation for the livestock. It grows farm produce using vegetable and herb seedlings in the greenhouse. Ayrshire Farm provides more than 200 varieties of vegetables, herbs and fruits. It is a member of the Virginia Organic Producers' and Consumers' Association and a partner of International Exchange for Agriculture. The farm's gourmet retail shop, Home Farm Store, offers United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) certified organic pasture-based meat and poultry.
