Horse and Soul Counseling is located in Orange, Virginia between Route 20 and Route 522. This agencies home base is 15 minutes from Culpeper Hospital, the town of Orange County, and Locust Grove. This facility offers counseling and educational interventions with the belief that individuals and family’s have the ability to create their own solutions. Horse and Soul Counseling emphasize how experiences such as beliefs, how one views things, environmental factors, and emotions influence the mental health and learning ability for individuals. Counseling occurs in a natural farm setting that include incorporating horses, sitting outside for therapy, nature walks, and more. Staff will go mobile to meet individuals in the community setting if it is deemed appropriate that this will further individuals to meet their treatment goals. Horse and Soul is an animal assisted counseling facility that incorporates horses within the counseling process. Nevertheless, Individuals can opt out of equine assisted interventions and engage in a more traditional talk therapy approach. Individuals do not ride horses nor are they taught horsemanship. Instead, individuals are challenged to interact, develop relationships, and use the horses as metaphors in order to bring self-awareness and strive towards treatment goals. This facility offers two types of interventions that integrate horses known as Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL).
