Rensselaer County Chapter NYSARC, formerly known as the Association for Retarded Children, serves more than 715 children and adults with mental disabilities and their families. Founded in 1950, it employs over 490 full- and part-time employees. The organization offers physical, speech and occupational therapy services. Rensselaer County Chapter NYSARC provides employment opportunities for adults at nearly 200 sites in the community through Riverside Enterprises. It operates the Brunswick Center, which offers prevocational, geriatric and independent living services. The organization provides a variety of recreational activities and conducts summer camps. Rensselaer County Chapter NYSARC also offers family reimbursement and guardianship services.
