- VaccinationA: Unfortunately, no. While we're flattered that you may want us to take care of your pet's routine medical needs, we only treat patients requiring specialty and/or emergency care. We don't do routine procedures such as spay/neuter, dental, vaccinations or heartworm/flea prevention unless previously arranged with your family veterinarian. There is one exception, however: if you're seeking primary care for exotics and avian (birds), including wellness visits with consultations regarding husbandry and management, our Avian and Exotics Department is happy to provide this service.

- Nutritional CounselingMedication typically causes side effects such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, hair loss and facial scabbing. Regular follow-up is needed, including blood tests to monitor thyroid hormone levels. Medication and monitoring will be constant expenses for the duration of your cat's life. In addition, your pet may experience the loss of white blood cells and blood clotting abilities, in addition to long-term liver and kidney damage. This treatment does not cure hyperthyroidism.

- Heart Disease TreatmentI brought in my parrot Ze in the other day and was seen by Dr. Britton saw my little man and Dylan was the nurse. I have worked in veterinary medicine for 8 years and this was BY FAR the BEST service and experience I have EVER seen or had. The facility was gorgeous. The staff was friendly, but Dr. Britton was AMAZING. She was compassionate and thorough. She treated my little guy like he was her own. Dylan the nurse was SUPER NICE and caring too. My baby was diagnosed with heart disease and I broke down, but Dr. Britton and Dylan put me at ease. I felt like my voice was heard and that my baby was in good hands. Thank you for making my visit wonderful and above all thank you for caring for my son.
- Kidney Disease TreatmentIf left untreated, gum disease not only can cause bad breath, tooth decay, and tooth loss, but once the bacteria gains access to internal organs through diseased gums, more serious health problems like heart, liver and kidney disease may follow.
- Periodontal Disease TreatmentWe have been patients of NSV for several years and the level care and knowledge by the staff AND the doctors never ceases to amaze me. They are caring and professional and love my furbabies as much as I do. When my Keeley passed away in 2019, Drs. Anderson, Culbert and Hammer supported me the whole step of the way; literally hugging me and holding my hand. Ann Rooney was phenomenal too; so gentle and kind in a time when I needed it most. This year, I met Dr. Herrmann for Eli who had severe periodontal disease. I thought it was a bit drastic that he suggested full mouth extraction, but I knew as a NS Vet he would only recommend the best care and decided to do it. I can't thank Dr. Herrmann enough for his expert dental care and kindness shown to Eli. I hadn't met him due to Covid restrictions, until our recent visit and he was pleased with Eli's healing...all thanks to him! Dr. Vygantas has seen Eli through his blindness always with care and compassion. I can't forget to mention the client liaisons. Nicole and Jeannette have been great! They respond to every email in a timely manner and always have an answer. I will continue to recommend NSV to everyone and anyone who will listen. Our experience has been outstanding! Thank you for all you do!

- Dental SurgeryMultiple attempts were made by doctors to correct Louie’s injuries before his adoption into a new home in New Jersey. Louie’s new humans eventually brought him to see the Dental and Oral Surgery team at NorthStar VETS around five months of age. A multi-step plan was put into place to correct his most severe issues. In one of his first procedures, a CT scan was performed and some damaged teeth were removed. The scan provided additional images of Louie’s mouth and clarified the way for the next phase of surgery. Six weeks later, tissue flaps were developed and a bone membrane was implanted to enclose the hole, and at his four-week recheck, everything was healing nicely!
