Formed in 1973, the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan is a private, nonprofit organization. Located in Traverse City, Mich., the organization serves senior citizens with disabilities. It supports the Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP). In addition, it provides the Senior Community Service Employment Program, which offers part-time employment opportunities for low-income individuals. The Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan provides an adult day care program that includes social and rehabilitative services for people with functional impairments. The organization offers elder abuse-related services that include the provision of public education, outreach and referral programs with respect to the prevention of abuse, neglect and exploitation of older individuals.
