I saw a review of this place in the Greenville News and 2 words caught my eye. Barbecue, of course, and "buffet." It's been years since I've found a good bbq buffet. Now I've found one that beats any others I've seen anywhere. Sadly, it's about 45 miles away, just a little far to go for dinner these days. But two friends and I went and, merciful heavens, were we impressed! The meat is as lean and juicy as any I've had anywhere. Not dried out at all-which is a challenge on a buffet. One person with me didn't see the selection of sauces (9 varieties if memory serves) and started eating the bbq plain and thought it was really good that way. The sauce only improved it. On the buffet, in addition to the pulled pork you could help yourself to bbq chicken, brunswick stew, a couple veggies (green beans the only disappointment of the meal), bread, and a couple desserts. I haven't tried the desserts yet, too full from the main course.

After we left, it dawned on me that the three of us had cleaned up six plates of bbq and had found no gristle, no fat, nothing to distract from the meaty goodness.

I went back a week later with another friend who is very hard to please. He wouldn't admit it was the best he'd ever had, saying he'd found one better (Circle M BBQ in Liberty, SC) but he had to admit it was the best value he'd ever seen in bbq.

The owners seem to genuinely care if you enjoyed the meal and are very friendly. My waitresses have been very attentive and efficient both times.

I've been once on a busy Friday night and once on a slow Wednesday afternoon and everything has been A1 both times.

And did I mention the melt in your mouth hush puppies they bring to the table almost immediately?

Were it about half as far away, they'd know me by name. Maybe it's fortunate for me that it's not closer.

I love good barbecue and I love Huntin' Camp.
