Not the same Swistons of several years ago



I went to Swistons for many years for their Beef on awe I and their Homemade Chili, but it has been several years since I have been there because I moved from the area. I could not believe how much the food has changed, and NOT for the better. It changed so much I am wondering if the people that use to run it sold the business to someone else. The Roast Beef on Weck was 1/2-2/3 the size it once was and the rolls they use are different and not for the better. The Chili was competely different than I have ever had there in the past. It had very little flavor and no 'zip' to it at all. in the past the Chili was always thick and flavorful with varying amounts of 'zip' that changed with each batch, IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!! Now, the liquid was thin and had no flavor as well as being bland. They serve just two things, their Roast Beef on Weck and Chili. I also noticed one other thing when I was there. I was the only person eating either the Roast Beef on Weck or the Chili!!! In the past, right up to closing there were never less than 6-10 people eating!!! What a shame that we have lost another unique resturaunt that once served delicious food, but the bar is still open and busy!!

I've been going to Swiston's since my grandfather was going there (I remember 1959)..it's changed locations, but the last time I was there (2008), it was still great..will be there this May just to get another beef on weck.

By far the best beef on weck I ever had, looked like almost a full pound of beef on a toasted weck. This place even had my O'Douls amber beer in the bottle. I am from Florida and will certainly be going back to Swistons several more times .

These Guys are awesome. Intimate atmosphere and great food, the aroma just walking through the door will start you off on a beef-lovers magical journey. Seriously though, it was really good, and every time I have been there it was just as good. Hard to find consistency these days, but I know I will be happy I went to this place to eat everytime.
