General Info
Hearing and communication is something we all take for granted until there is a deficit, whether it be the result of noise exposure, genetics, age, or another underlying condition. Regaining this loss of function and communication ability requires much more than simply buying a hearing aid from a local dealer (despite what the advertising suggests). If you ever wonder why some people have such poor experiences with hearing aids, it is likely that they did not receive the necessary counseling, education, and adjustments required during the fitting and prescriptive process. In fact, many spend a lot of money on hearing aids that end up in a drawers. If the dealer's goal is to sell you hearing aids, then you will end up with whatever you are willing to buy--which is not necessarily the most appropriate for your hearing loss and needs.Unfortunately, obtaining a license to provide "free" nondiagnostic hearing "tests" and sell hearing aids requires no formal education or training. In stark contrast, audiology doctors (Au.D.) have dedicated their careers to understanding hearing and hearing loss (as well as other ear disorders) and how to help those who experience problems in this area. Improving your hearing health requires an investment of your time and money (either directly or through insurance premiums), we are here to help you make well-informed choices and ensure you maximize the benefit and value of your investment.Dr. Clint D.
