- Dental CareIs your pet experiencing bad breath or excessive drooling? Just like humans, pets need regular dental care and cleanings. Good dental care plays a crucial role in the quality of your pet's life. Dental disease is the most common medical problem seen in pets and can lead to pain, tooth loss, and generalized disease. We offer routine dental care including exams, x-rays, teeth cleaning, and more.
- VaccinationPocket pets refer to smaller household pets such as guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rats, gerbils, and hedgehogs. Each pet is different and requires different care. We will guide you in your pet’s care, provide helpful tips for keeping your pet safe and we offer treatments (such as vaccination, parasite screening, and spay/neuter) to keep your pet healthy.
- Veterinary OphthalmologyThis non-invasive diagnostic test measures the intraocular pressure inside your pet’s eye and is used to test for glaucoma and uveitis. Increased pressure in your pet’s eye can be dangerous and tonometry is an easy way to check the pressure without having to sedate your pet.
- Comprehensive ExaminationAs pet owners ourselves, we believe that preventative care with wellness exams are the keys to your pet living a longer, healthier, and happier life.
- Parasites Treatment and ControlWhat can I do to protect my pet? Heartworm disease is preventable! Dogs should be tested annually and before starting prevention. Provide heartworm prevention 12 months of the year. Prevention is the safest and most cost-effective option, but treatment is available for dogs (although costly and lengthy). Cats should be tested before starting prevention and re-tested as the veterinarian deems appropriate. There is NO treatment in cats, so prevention is critical and the only means of protection.
- Pain ManagementFrequently, after therapy, the quote is heard: “Our young animal is back” or “she acts like a puppy again.” – Pain relief is provided in just a few minutes of therapy, and that alone improves the quality of life for your best friend.
- Vomiting Treatment
- Skin Condition and Allergy TreatmentItching, scratching, and hot spots are all signs of allergies and skin conditions in pets. Just like humans, pets can be sensitive to irritants that cause them distress. Our team will diagnose and offer treatment for pets with skin-related problems including parasites, allergies, rashes, infections, hair loss, and more. When left untreated, some of these conditions can become serious health concerns.
- Intestinal Foreign Object Removal
- Leptospirosis TreatmentSouthpaw Animal Health adheres to the manufacturer's recommendations for vaccinations. We do offer 3-year Rabies vaccines. Not all diseases that we vaccinate against require direct contact with other dogs. For example, Parvovirus and Leptospirosis are in the environment. It’s always better to prevent a disease than to treat one.
- Parvovirus Infection Treatment
- Bacterial and Viral Infection TreatmentWhy should you vaccinate your pet? Vaccinations are very important for young pets when their immune systems are still developing. Vaccines protect against many viral and bacterial infections in pets. Our vets provide vaccination education and discuss our vaccine schedule, which helps to keep your pet healthy.
- Ear Infection TreatmentYour veterinarian will examine your pet from nose to tail, looking for things like heart murmurs, ear infections, and/or parasites. Your vet can also provide pet-proofing tips, training assistance, and parasite protection recommendations.
- Hip Dysplasia TreatmentWe routinely perform orthopedic surgeries, which are procedures related to bones and joints. Common orthopedic pet surgeries include bone fracture repair, cruciate ligament repair, extracapsular and TPLO techniques, leg or toe amputation, patellar luxation repair, and surgeries to treat hip dysplasia, including femoral head ostectomy (FHO).
- Knee Problems Treatment
- Heart Disease TreatmentAn EKG is a painless test used to diagnose cardiac abnormalities, such as an enlarged heart, heart murmur, congestive heart failure, or irregular heart rhythm. EKGs can also help determine if your pet’s heart is strong enough to undergo anesthesia and is often used as a pre-surgical test.
- Kidney Disease Treatment
- Periodontal Disease TreatmentDental disease is the most common disease in dogs. Recent studies show that 85% of cats and 92% of dogs over age 3 have periodontal disease.
- Seizure Treatment
- Wound and Fracture CareOur veterinarians are experienced in various soft tissue pet surgeries, the most routinely performed procedures being spay/neuters and mass/tumor removals. Other examples of veterinary soft tissue surgeries include intestinal foreign body removal, laceration and wound repair, eye surgery, perineal urethrostomy, mastectomy, splenectomy, and other specialized surgeries.
- Dental SurgeryReduces the need for more advanced and expensive treatment in the future such as teeth extractions and oral surgery
- Ophthalmic Surgery
- Veterinary SurgeryQuite simply, our doctors love medicine, and this also means they love a challenge. While we do offer vaccinations and routine surgeries, Southpaw’s approach to medicine focuses on total preventive healthcare, such as yearly bloodwork and special supportive care during surgical procedures. Because of their vast experience, our veterinarians rarely outsource their patients with more complex illnesses and injuries to specialists, they treat most of their own patients in-house.
- Spaying and NeuteringSpaying or neutering your pet is an important decision for pet owners. Removal of the male or female reproductive organs prevents unwanted pregnancies and reproductive cancers from threatening your pet's life. We offer spay and neuter surgery as part of your pet's preventative wellness care.
- Laboratory ServicesFor puppies and kittens, we need to see them on a more frequent schedule during their first year of life. For pets over age 7, we recommend exams and blood work every 6 months to help us detect diseases and issues before they become a problem.
- X-RayWe don’t focus only on the simple stuff. Yes, we do vaccines – you can’t live without them and they’re very important to prevent both debilitating and deadly diseases in your pet. But we also offer in-house diagnostics such as bloodwork, digital radiography, and ultrasound; modern therapies such as companion laser therapy that has proven effective for chronic inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, and complex surgical procedures.
- MicrochippingShould I microchip my pet? Every year thousands of pets go missing. Even the most responsible pet owners experience broken leashes, escape artists, and thefts. Microchipping is a safe, effective, and permanent way to identify your pet in the event they get lost or stolen.
- Senior Pet CareAs pets enter their senior years, they require specialized care and age-specific testing to stay healthy and extend longevity. As your pet ages, our vets can help you identify early warning signs and take the necessary precautions to keep your senior pet healthy and happy.
