People with Mercedes ( Chrysler Crossfire) are perceived to have deep pockets. Even people with a ten yr old one with over 135 k miles.
For example, a shop capable of repairing 5 cars a day but ten people come in for repairs a day. They quote these exorbitant prices to customers and see which one will bite. The five that don't bite are stuck paying for a estimate which for example makes him $500 a day. They don't want to fix your $200 dollar problem. They will include plausible repairs to bump it to 900 bucks. Some people are suckers and some are more informed like me.
I came into the shop and talked to this person( that my son said was kind of creepy as those who have visited the shop will instantly recognize who I'm talking about) , and I stressed to him that I knew what was wrong with this car and I didn't want to spend much money as my teenaged son was paying the bill. In the 45 minutes I was talking to him he never said anything about a $100 dollar estimate( and I must admit that I didn't see the sign) because I knew what was wrong with the car. I wanted the estimate right then but was at the end of the day. I had my young son bring the car in the next day and He came back with a quote that was $300 bucks more then the estimate at a actual MERCEDES BENZ DEALERSHIP. That quote was designed to generate either 100 dollars, or a repair that was grossly overreaching. You go to these shade tree mechanics to get a deal but none is to be found here.
At these prices I expect at least coffee and donuts but all I got was a bunch of mosquito bites.
To make things worse some rude obese young lady told me to extinguish my cigarette when I was out side waiting for the cops to try to get my keys back The nerve of these people. Then they told the cops that they felt threatened
It must have been the color of my skin.
Like the op said in the above post about the catalytic converter repair, you got to be careful when going to places like this. One way or another they will get money for you.
And like the previous poster I expect a rebuttal from Ledbetter's shade tree mechanics where they will sound all professional and wish me well while talking out the side of their mouth.

Took my Mercedes to Ledbetters because of their 40 years of being in business and them being a family owned business.
Paid $2000 and did not get my car repaired.Each time I contacted them there was something different wrong with the car. Ended up putting a used expensive part in my car that I honestly believe was taken from one of the old cars that they have lying around, and then lied and said that I gave approval for them to do so. They say they are the alternative to the Mercedes dealer for auto repairs but when I complained about the service they say they can't order parts from Mercedes? Very misleading. Would not recommend anyone take their car there for repairs. Full of excuses but produce no results.

Not only are they good at what they do or reasonable, but they are honest and outspoken, one of the things that impressed me most is that they only use only genuine parts. They are my mechanics and I recommend them anytime!

I just had my 2000 S500 at Ledbetter's to have the hydraulic air shocks replaced. I was impressed with the knowledge and equipment they had. They spent the time to review my cars needs with me in everyday terms. The information much more understandable than at the dealership. Definitely a place I will bring my car back to!

I was very impressed after talking to Mike at Ledbetter's he was very polite and honest, he took time out to explain in great detail about the repairs needed on my car, most of all he had never meet me or worked on my car, but he treated me as if i was a customer for many years. I just wanted to share how impressed and pleased I am with the Ledbetters. Not only is their work impeccable, but they are honest and trustworthy. Their rates are more than reasonable and very appropriate for the good work done. We have taken our E350 to them from the start and have never been anything less than 100% satisfied. Brought my car to Ledbetter's with transmission problem, I had previously had car at a different shop but they did not have the proper equipment to repair my car. I thought the service was excellent and a quick turn around. Michael made sure I understood all the needs of my car and made me feel welcome.

Excellent service! I was impressed with how thoroughly they explained the repairs I needed,at different shops the mechanic just ask to speak to my husband like I am an idiot! I will be back.
