Came highly recommended by a co-worker. Visited 4/2/11.
-Hostess was average-they were late for our reservations & my husband couldn't get service at the bar (looking for green olives-3 months prego & baby was not pleased w/ the wait).
-Waitress was friendly at first & didn't push the wine list. Seemed to know her speech well....and I do say speech, not presentation. Less than ""fine dinning"" standard on service as she leaned on our table trying to commit our order to memory.
-Steak presenter had forgotten a number of his lines & made us feel uncomfortable. Steaks on display looked dull, fatty, & lacked good variety. They also brag about having hormone free cows while bragging about having grain fed cows. Need to learn a little more about corn fed cows before promoting. Promote cut of steer fed beer daily-so much fat you could hardly see any red meat. The filet on the display was far from what reached my plate.
-Ordered Filet/T-Bone. Cooked to order-med. rare & fairly close. Little over done. Sides were additional charge. Steaks were over priced & had way to much fat on them aka ""marble"". Dress it up any way you want to, they should have been trimmed. Appearance was repulsive-almost looked regurgitated. No effort was made & meat could not hold its own. Paid $35.00 for my 10oz filet. Tasted like a sirloin. Could have gotten better at outback. Husband's T-bone was better, but still bad. T-bone was $30.00. Waste.
-Sides: (round 1) Cream Spinach, ""Smashed"" Potatoes, Shrimp & Scallop Scampi. Took one bite of Spinach & almost spit it out. Really could not believe how bad it was. Really. Sent it back to exchange. Potatoes didn't arrive with the rest of our meal, when we asked for them she brought them to the table looking disgusted with what she was about to serve, stirring them right next to us told us ""well there looks like there is a huge clump of garlic butter right in the middle of these"". The level of grease coated my mouth after the first bite & we sent those back as well. The potatoes were literally green-absolutely awful!
HOWEVER, much praise for the scampi. Flavorful, great presentation, aromatic. I was very impressed. Large portion for $14.00 and would be the only thing I would recommend.
-Sides (round 2) Asparagus---WOW, can you really make it that bad? Came out without the sauce & what appeared to be a slice of Kraft cheese. We didn't eat any of it. One bite each was MORE than enough. I didn't know you could actually make $7.00 asparagus that blan. Potatoes-much better without the garlic grease but far under par. No effort was put into these and the presentation said they cared little about impressing you.
-We were so turned off we didn't order dessert! We went to Wendy's to get a $1 Frosty, a better value than anything else we had all night!
-No one ever apologized for the terrible food that we were obviously unhappy with. The staff was almost offended we didn't like their food & the check was over $100.00-not worth $45.00
-Atmosphere-people must go here for the bar. Its loud. Intrusive. The menus are way over sized. And most of the staff could probably be found at Steak-N-Shake or Apple Bee's. No quality at all.
We will never eat here again. This experience was laughable at best. Instead of enjoying an evening of conversation we discussed how terrible the food was, how much of a waste of money it was, & how we should have gone somewhere else. My husband even at one point said ""we can get up and leave right now & find another place if you want"". Pitiful! If someone gives this place a good review they must not fancy a quality steak or a fine dining experience.
If you are thinking about heading here just make a U-turn and head to Bern's or somewhere else where you will actually get something for your money-effort, presentation, & a better steak. Thumbs way, way down on this one!
PS-He will be telling his co-worker Monday that he owes him $115.00 for this wast

NO STARS for Charley's. Salad was put in a food processor and ground to small bits- all 4 steaks at our table were cooked 'well done' even though they were ordered 'medium'. Menu's were physically huge, tables were small and awkward. Everything was WAY overpriced, and the waiter pushed items that weren't on the menu that no one knew the price of. My filet looked like a cow prostate gland and smelled like a dirty tampon along with being cooked dark brown inside. No one at our table was charged for their steaks. The side dishes were uninteresting and could be prepared better by a 10 year old. Have wanted to go there for 6 years and will now laugh every time I pass it on the highway. DISGUSTING!!! Complimentary dessert plate was pretty good, but I cooked grits and eggs when I got home just to fill the empty hole in my stomach.

Based on positive reviews, we went to Charley's last night to celebrate a birthday and had high expectations. The atmosphere was nice (except that it was extremely cold and I was shivering during most of the meal). The hostess was friendly, but the waiter was like an unpersonable robot giving a canned speech. I'm a bread lover, but the bread (sourdough) was disappointing - four of the five people at our table didn't care for the taste. The salad was 99% lettuce and I've had better at Wendy's. Au Gratin potatoes were tasteless and undercooked. ""Vegetables"" literally consisted of a piece of a green, red & yellow pepper and two onion wedges (not my idea of mixed vegetables). The steaks were good, but definitely not exceptional and not at all comparable to aged beef I've enjoyed elsewhere. Gator appetizer was dry. Soup not available. All in all, we won't be going back to Charley's. I don't mind paying a high price for exceptional food, but this food just wasn't anywhere near exceptional and for the cost, I feel like I was robbed. I'd recommend Flemings, which is EXCEPTIONAL in EVERY aspect. Or, for a excellent meal (not so much the atmosphere), I'd recommend Grillsmith. Sorry Charley!!

I couldn't disagree more with some of the negative reviews posted here. I'm a regular patron of Charley's Steak--and for good reason! The steaks are always prepared just as ordered, the sides are excellently flavored, the wine list is exceptional, and for the portions and quality of the food the price is appropriate.

If you have worked to take out your spouse/family/friend..go somewhere else...This place is for those who's company pays the bill! Place is noisey and one gets the feeelin of eating with others as the tables are very close.
Food is OVERPRICED and the wait staff is in a hurry to turn the table over.
I made the mistake twice: Food was not cooked properly, and hecks it's only steak and seafood. No real sauces, food is BLAND and did I mention OVERPRICED!
I eat out 4 days a week and honestly there are many better choices than this place.

I have eaten here about a dozen times over the years - Charley's has a reputation for great steaks. This is well deserved as I have never had a bad meal here. However for what should be a 5star restaurant - it has a more casual dress code and the service equates to more of what you would find at Chillis or Applebees. Still the prices for a restaurant with no view seem kinda high to me.
If I am going to spend 100.00 for 2 people - I am going to pick a waterfront restaurant with a nice view. Better place for a business lunch with a client.

We were seated by the windows out front. The area smelled musty and dirty. The bathrooms were dirty. The room was very loud. Most of the patrons were dressed ultra casual and made me feel like I was a pub, rather than a ""top of the line"" steakhouse. Jeans and t-shirts! Waiter was friendly, but not personable. Not very attentive.
Although the appetizer was good (new crab cakes w/mango salsa) everything else was a dissapointment, as far as I was concerned. (I guess the bread was good.) Salad was so-so. My filet had fat and grizzle on one entire side. The smoke flavor was overwhelming. Even the asparagus was smoked. Yuck. Desserts were average at best.
To top it off, the bill was $100 more than our estimation. Dinner for four (three ordered the ""special"" - one ordered a steak w/no sides) three iced-teas and two appetizers came to $250. A bit much for no alcohol. I won't go back.

We had reservations at 6 p.m. on Sunday and were seated immediately. Our waiter was prompt and friendly, suggesting drinks to start with. He made a suggestion of a house special appetizer we did not see on the menu. After he described it we decideed to order it and enjoy a beverage. This was a huge mistake. When the bill came this appetizer was $66.95!! Ridiculous and nothing special. We wondered why he did not mention the price of this plate. We had much of his attention until the room began to fill with a few more customers. Once our food arrived we did not see him. I must say 4 out of 5 dishes were amazing in taste, presentation and how well they were cooked. My ""Kansas"" steak was a disappointment in that after I removed the thick layer of fat it was cooked rare and not medium like I ordered. By the time our waiter came to the table the rest of our party was almost done eating. I asked him to remove my steak. The (female) manager came to see about our meal and offered to""re-do"" my steak but I declined. She put it in a to-go box. The $30 steak appeared on our bill prompting me again to ask him to remove it. He did so. I did not appreciate having to ask twice. All in all the food was over priced but good and memorable. We have been to Charley's 7-8 times and the service has always been a little questionable and at times unreliable but the food is almost always really, really good. We headed to the bar for an after dinner drink and took the suggestion of the very friendly bartender to order the flavor-infused martini's. Our surprise came when the bill for 3 simple martini's came to $45, not worth it, ever. Another disappointment. For some odd reason we had a good time while regretting the money we spent at Charley's. We may go back but not for a long while.

An absolute rip-off. We live in Tampa, and have enjoyed Berns steakhouse a number of times and came to Charleys just on a whim to compare. We were a party of four and were offered a ""appetizer sampling platter,"" which turned out to be over $110! The salads that came with the steaks were nothing but iceberg lettuce and some sauce. The service was good at 6pm, but declined into misery after the poor girl got swamped after 7. $500 for four people (wine not included) + mediocre meal = DO NOT GO HERE!

we were there last might and last week. i am playing tour guide of tampa to 2 of my friends from reno. they are gone now but said they had ""researched"" tampa hot spots and mentioned this site, so i had to see for my self. they liked charleys best so i have to give them props from reno. i have a 5 year history and i must say that sometimes i find a new favorite hangout but it seems i gravitate back to charleys when i really want to hang it all on the line. i always meet cool people and cant help but smile when i leave. the food is as it always was and the service is very cool (relaxed) but very solid. i like it because no matter what i'm doing i can always break off and show up and charleys.

we were there last night and i heard a table say they were going to post a review on citysearch. we only caught the last half of their troubles but i just have to say they were not there to have a good time. i always have fun and a great steak so i was just curious what she was going to say. i don't see her post so if she does, let me say her party was apparently comparing everything to other restaurants. when i want french/vietnamese, i go to restaurant bt. when i want italian, i go to donatello's. my point is, she wanted charleys to be what it is not and was blind to what they do great. she wanted a kids menu. charleys is not kid friendly. she wanted a quiet table even though she reserved a table in the bar lounge; charleys bar is loud. i guess i had a great time because i know what to expect and i come when i want to have a charleys night out. i wanted to say something to her but decided she would tell us all about how she was disappointed. when i read the reviews from years past on this board it seems to be a recurring theme. those who go to have a good time and a great meal, everything is great. when someone shows up expecting morton's steakhouse or some other experience then they have a hissy fit. one comment was ""don't believe the hype"". how can you not believe the hype when you are surrounded by happy people?
now that's out of the way. last night i had a nice glass of wine and the monster app for 5 people, shared of course. later my friend ordered some south american red wine that was crazy good and we all had shots at the bar after dinner. that's what i call a charleys night out. and for the gal who was not a happy camper, well she is invited to join us next time we go.

I came to the restaurant with a party of eight and not a one of us was impressed. I had started with the beefsteak tomato salad, which was far from pleasurable. The tomatoes were not even close to being ripe. The filet I order medium rare came out charred on the outside and closer to medium well then even medium. Another guest ordered their filet with a bufferfly cut, medium and the oscar topping. The oscar topping was the only thing done right. A few of the guest had ordered sodas to drink but the soda machine broke down around mid-point through the meals. These individuals switched to water but were still charged for the sodas. We all agreed we have had better meals at Outback for a third the price. If you are going to spend this amount of money - I recommend Shula's, Ruth's Crist, or Fleming's. These are all far superior to Charlie's.

Our food arrived way undercooked even though it took an hour from our arrival to entree on our table. Our waitress Lisa was not where to be found; finally got another waiter to help us. Lisa claimed we had gotten there too early and it takes time for the grill to warm up. Really??!! You'd think they could get someone to turn the grills on early. When she brought our dinners back; they were still not cooked to our requirements. But since we had been there over 90 minutes; we lived with it. However, my husband was ill when we got home for his under cooked tuna. Total time spent on just dinner, no appretizers, no dessert: 2 hours.
My steak was far from the best I've ever had. It was big, but big is not always best. Wonder how many hormones they use to get such large cuts of meat???
Charley,s use to be great...but since they sold out to ""Talk of The Town"" group they have gone from the top to the bottom. If you haven't been in a couple of years don't bother..the only thing that is the same is the location...if you do, don't worry about the wait...there isn't any...this same group managed to ruin another one of my favorite places ""Fishbones"" in Orlando...shame on""Talkof theTown""
First, we waited for an hour and a half to be seated when we had a reservation beforehand. The restaurant mismanaged and overbooked that day. Second, the services were terrible and not professional at all for the price and level of this kind of fine dinning place. We felt like we were in the bar and the waiters selectively chatting with customers they like. We had to ask for a glass of water 3 times over 20 minutes. The waiters did not spend time with us to explain the menu and recommend dishes. At the end, we were holding two take-out boxes and the waiters didn't even offer a bag. Finally, the T-Bone steak I had was overly flavored. Too salty that I could not taste much of the meat itself. They may have an excuse that they were extremely busy on that day; nevertheless, a fine dinning restaurant like Charley's should keep constant good quality at all time if they are to open the door and charge the same high price every day.
