Founded in 1899, Whittier Elementary School offers education to students in kindergarten through grade five and also operates a preschool. The school s academic curriculum includes music, art, science, social studies, English and reading. It also conducts classes in physical education and language arts. The school s staff includes a librarian, instructional facilitator and full-time teachers. Whittier Elementary School offers the Kiwannis' Terrific Kids program and Learning Assistance Program. It also offers the learning resource program that focuses on early childhood development. The school supplies pencils, erasers, pens, glue sticks, spiral notebooks, sharpeners and folders. It serves breakfast and lunch to students. In addition, the school provides before- and after-school, on-site child care. Whittier Elementary School is a part of Tacoma Public Schools and is located in Fircrest, Wash.
