- Internal MedicineKirk began flying with his father in a Beechcraft Bonanza at a young age, always flying in the right seat. Dr. Harmon was accepted to the Air Force Academy, but did not pass the vision standard for a pilot slot. He attended Purdue University instead, and earned his Medical Degree from Cornell Medical College, and completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine (adult specialist) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Harmon’s love of flying never lessened, and at the conclusion of his residency, he joined the Air National Guard, RF4 squadron, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was trained as a Flight Surgeon and became “Rated Air Crew” as a Flight Surgeon attending to the health and welfare of the squadron pilots.
