Shenandoah Shakespeare s American Shakespeare Center, located in Staunton, Va., is a national Shakespeare resource for audiences, actors, students, scholars, and educators. The center tours internationally and performs in repertory in the Virginia at Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, a recreation of William Shakespeare's original indoor theatre. The group enacts a variety of plays, such as the Merry Wives of Windsor, Love's Labour's Lost, Macbeth, the Tempest, Coriolanus, the Taming of the Shrew, Julius Caesar, Richard III, Twelfth Night, and A Christmas Carol. Shenandoah Shakespeare s ASC offers workshops, performances, actor training, summer programs, readings, lectures, student matinees, and the international Blackfriars Conference. Elementary students are offered an introduction to Shakespeare s plays that include fun with props and costumes. Workshops for middle school classes provide students the tools to begin exploring Shakespeare's language and stories, and in high school and college settings, the center caters to English and theatre classes.
