General Info
The Police Athletic League (PAL) is one of the largest, nonprofit, independent youth organizations. Founded in 1914, PAL provides inner-city children and teenagers with educational, recreational and employment programs after-school and during the summer months. It maintains a sports department that organizes more than 1,800 athletic teams with assistance from police officers and community volunteers. PAL offers various sports activities, such as basketball, baseball, volleyball, golf, soccer, and track and field. It operates full- and part-time youth centers and TASC-funded programs to provide a variety of cultural programs. It also offers various art, child care and sports programs. In addition, PAL operates a police liaison unit that works closely with PAL to establish a better rapport between police officers and youngsters.
