After calling numerous cab/taxi companies in the Stamford / Westchester area, Independent Taxi was the only one that was willing to assist us out of the horrible situation we were in. As an owner of a small moving company in Scottsdale, AZ. One of our movers drove a rental truck for one of our customers out to Greenwich, CT. After 4 days of driving, and having to avoid horrible storms, tornados and nasty weather this week along the route our driver was on, he barely arrived into CT with just enough time to get to the Westchester Airport- Only to find out that his flight had been canceled due to weather related reasons, and the airline was not able to get him onto another flight till the following afternoon. With only $40 cash in his wallet and no debit card, this was the worst news he could have gotten after making such a long trip. He didn't even have enough money to even stay in a motel for the night, To make a long story short.. Back in Arizona, I had just enough money on my credit card to get him into a hotel for that night, But we didn't have enough to pay for a cab to the motel. So I called our customer to see if they could help and he was willing to give our guy a ride over to the motel from the airport, but he would not be able to give him a ride back to the airport the next day. Knowing that we didn't have enough to pay for a taxi ride to the airport the following day, stress seemed to take over once again So.... I had spent hours practically calling every transportation company in CT/NY area, and sent numerous email's explaining the situation we were in. (Most of the companies I had called were very rude.) The hotel was only 12 miles from the airport, but we were getting quotes of $70 up to $200. These rates just blew my mind, I couldn't believe how expensive it was. When I called Independent Taxi, the gentlemen quoted me the standard rate which was just a little under or about the same as what I was being quoted by a couple others, but the gentlemen on the phone listened to me as I explained our situation and he listened to me without even cutting me off once while I was talking, unlike many of the others. I told him how no other company was willing to help us out, He then told me that he would work something out with us, and that he would help us, and he advised me to call back the next day when we needed the ride over to the airport. I was still nervous up until I made that phone call the next day, Feeling very stressed that they wouldn't come through for us, but I called, spoke with a young lady this time, told her what the gentlemen the night before had told us, and not even 15 minutes later, a taxi was waiting out front of the motel waiting to pick up our guy and take him to the airport!! This was a clear act of kindness, compassion and understanding! You don't see too much of that in people these days, Running a business myself, I knew that I could never let it be only about just making money or getting as much money as I can out of people. As a service provider, ( taxi service / moving company / landscaper..etc ) you will have customers call who need help for many different reasons, The customers can be young or old or in-between, some have a large income, some have no incomes, our business goal has always been about helping out everyone the best we can, no matter what the scenario is, or how much they can spend. This is what makes the good guys- the better business's- stand out from the bad ones. We believe if your going to do something, a job or provide a service, you need to do it right. And do it right in every way, not just job performance, but in the way we treat one another. Sometimes, people have no one around to help, or know any one who is willing to help, and that is a horrible feeling to be feeling inside.
