Never AGain!! Horrible at BEST! The empty dining room on a Saturday night should have been our first clue.
I ordered a Steak Well done, specifically said two times "No Pink". When my steak came it was medium rare- very pink. I asked if they could cook it a little longer it was too pink. The server apologized and took it back. I waited over 20 minutes my party had finished their meals by then and when I received my steak back it was Medium Rare-very pink again. The server again apologized and asked if I wanted it cooked more. At this point I was beyond annoyed and my party had finished their meals, and I didn't want to wait 20 more minutes, thinking the chicken might be faster I ordered the chicken Almondine. This came out in about 10 minutes, tasted like boiled chicken with a flavorless almond sauce tossed on top, again very disappointed. The manager/owner Steve Foster, came by to assure us he removed the steak from the bill (Thanks since I never ate it), and tried to blame the problem on me. He stated that I told the server Medium Rare when in fact I told her more than one time Well Done no pink. He seemed annoyed with me and made me feel that this was in no way their fault. He then told me don't expect any discounts. Really, I waited almost an hour for food and my party finished their meals long before I had mine and now the owner is getting nasty with me. Any decent restaurant would have offered a discount or more for the inconvenience. Add to the fact that one of the people in my party ordered the Prime Rib which is served table side, the server cut the roast and then poured cold Auj Jus over the meat.
We then get our bill and are looking over it when we see that the Salads and Potatoes are extra. They are NOT included with your meals. The menus are very deceiving and so is the server who when you place your order asks what kind of salad and potato you would like as if they are part of the meal. An additional $6 for salad and $4 for potato. Still we paid our bill and proceeded to leave when the owner standing near the door says to us in a very sarcastic way with a smirk on his face "have a good night" and smiled in a way that made us think maybe something was done to our food. As we left he then said to us "don't ever come back". So professional! No problem Steve Foster we won't be back and we will make sure everyone we know and everyone they know does not come back either. We will spread our story on all social media.
My understanding is this new owner took over and this land mark tradition and is taking the cheap route and it is no longer living up to it's historical reputation. The quality of the food, the service and the atmosphere is no longer what it used to be. The dining areas are cold with their linoleum flooring and coffee shop tables and chairs.

Waiter was excellent...food was not up to par. Clam casino was under cooked and rib was dry and unflavorful.

My family and I went to the Red Osier today for an 80th birthday celebration for my mom. I have heard so many good things about the Red Osier, and after my dinner today.... all I can say is... REALLY? Our waiter was very rude and now I know why.... it's because the gratuity was already written into our bill--- so he didn't have to be nice to us!! As for the food--Applebee's has better ribs than the Red Osier!! My ribs had so much fat on them that I couldn't eat around the fat! And my sons' filet mignons looked like hamburger patties! One of my sons ordered the broiled haddock.... it looked like a small perch!! We were not offered coffee, but rather, we had to ask our rude waiter for coffee when he was getting dessert requests. I will never be going back to the Red Osier again. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth!!

every time i go there i was dr...

every time i go there i was dragged and wished i stayed home-because each time was a disapointment- but being local my friends and family get to pick the resturant at times and i get stuck-this rest has bee a place i have been in abt 25 times -since i was a kid- i had so many bad dinners or something gross would come up- first the decor is shabby- not shabby chic- just shabby-old and out of style--the place smells like a old folks home- they are trying to skimp any way for so many yrs i can't believe they r still open--the caesar salads made tableside have a dressing that isnt made tableside which defeats the purpose, totally --the blue cheese dressing is watered down and contains cottage cheese and feta cheese -no flavor---the pay extra for blue cheese crumbles were feta -a joke---the rolls are like ones u get at a diner and hard mini muffins that r more like a desert than dinner fare--savory /sweet---the au jus is made obviously from boullion not natural drippings, the prime rib grey and not seasoned well on the outside before or after cooking-most times the baked pot are overcooked and the potatoes with blue cheese tasted foul- the most foul was one order i had of shrimp over linguini-scampi style--it smelled like a dirty fish tank-unedible and my stomach turned -couldnt eat- mgt rude -didnt take off bill but my i and dinnermates were made to feel uncomfortable by mgt and i didnt get anything else-but still pd for the returned dish--they should have been so embarrassed 6 people at table all confirmed the bad smell-wouldnt taste-how gross--and mgt acted pompous instead of apologetic---one time we waited for service and table so long it was after the early bird hr and they should have given the specials as we waited forever to be seated-they wouldn't honor the special and acted rudely giving us cold meals and poor service.--they make promotions and then act like nazis enforcing limitations and regulations so u can't use your promotional coupons like they gave them to u instead of the fact u purchaSED THEM- $100.00 to get $ 20 00 and then so many rules they wont take them and i lost $2 at $20 ---better off as 90% of time dinner really sucks there and i just hope people can use gift cards cause these cheap skimpy cut corners to make a buck management people dont care about the food or mgt quality--to them the customers are their ticket to profit not respected or appreciated at all----do some remodeling and start making good food asd u have on and off for yrs -mostly off----and that watery soup--i am scared as ur so cheap in every other way- that u may use table scraps cut up in the blah- tasteless soup as u serve spoiled shrimp scampi

First Rate Fine Dining

I have dined at the Red Osier Landmark more times than I can count over the past twenty years. Terrific food, great service, reasonable prices, and a really nice ambience and setting. Whether I bring a business client, my wife, my family or just meet some friends, it has always been a great experience. My friends, some from Buffalo, some from the Rochester area, who have gone there rave about their meals...and how welcome they feel. And its not just about prime rib...great seaffod dishes....a real varied menu, and a cozy bar. I sure like going there...and I genererally don't get there before 7p.m. so I don't know about the early bird specials.

Best Prime Rib in Rochester

Red Osier is my parents' favorite restaurant -- which pretty much sums up this very popular local landmark. The prime rib is great and their "early bird specials" are a great value. Not sure what the meals are like after 6 pm -- my parents won't eat after 5:30.
