It is our dedication to delivering high quality products, the immediate response to our customers, attention to detail, combined with our expertise in the construction, roofing, and the insurance industry that we fulfill our commitment to setting a higher standard. Roof Installation Shingle Type This is the single most important decision you will make regarding your roof. Here at Rapid Response, we prefer to use Owens Corning laminate shingles. It will give you peace of mind knowing your roof is secure with the most advance technology available in the roofing industry. These shingle can withstand winds upto 130mph!! This shingle carries a 10 year algae manufacturer warranty and a lifetime workmanship warranty. Again, one of the best shingles in the roofing industry. Other names for a laminate shingle are: Dimensional and Architectural Eave Edges and Valleys Ice and Water Shield is installed along the rakes, eaves and valleys if the building code in your area requires it. This is a key element to proper roof installation as it also prevents ice and snow melting (caused by ice damming in harsh winter climates) from leaking into your home. Underlayment On remaining decking, our roof installation involves applying one layer of felt or synthetic underlay. The underlay overlaps 3 inches and is nailed/stapled to the top and bottom lap every 18 inches. Drip Edge In this area of roof installation, drip edge is installed on all edges, starting at the eve edge, working up the rake edges. Some homes in the St Louis area are designed so no drip edge is needed. Drip edge comes in 10ft sections which overlay 2 to 3 inches to cover edges. For eves, drip edge goes on under the ice and water shield and felt. On rakes it will be installed on top of the underlayment. Shingle Installation Starter shingles are installed hanging over the drip edge a half inch along the eaves. It’s installed like a shingle and you will notice the tar strip is at the lower edge and this will help prevent the shingle from blowing off. The first full size course of shingles is installed directly on top of the starter shingle with the tabs facing down towards the eaves. Shingle Cont. Installing your choice of Owens Corning shingles comes next. This shingle is the shingle you see when looking at your roof. Four nails per shingle are used for the Duration line with the sure nail technology. For steep pitched roofs and high wind areas, six nails per shingle are used. For all other shingle types, six nails per shingle are used. Valleys In this area of roof installation, an Ice and Water shield is installed in all valleys to help prevent wind driven rain from leaking through the roofs decking. The first step regarding this roof installation is to determine which area has the steepest pitch, or may carry the highest impact of water. We will keep this in mind as we will be cutting off that side of our valley. Hip and Ridge Once the body of the roof installation has been shingled, we will then apply the hip shingles, if you have a hip roof, which will be overlapped by the ridge shingles. Gable roofs will only have ridge shingles. We lay one hip cap at one end of the ridge and another at the other end. Flashing Plumbing vent boots will need to be replaced during the roof installation with new rubber ones. We attempt replace all step flashing, however if nailed or placed under or over siding we may not be able to replace. For chimney counter flashing, we always cut a new aluminum flashing due to tar not holding
