- Dental Examination
- X-raysLatisha’s wisdom teeth hadn’t erupted yet, but it was clear from dental x-rays during her checkup that they’d be coming in horizontally. “When I saw the x-rays, I couldn’t believe they were coming in that crooked. It was clear they needed to be removed.”
- FillingsTooth colored fillings now are harder and more durable than silver / amalgam fillings. A small filling could conceivably last your lifetime, and larger fillings can be expected to last many years. The factors that determine the lifespan of a particular filling include: the tooth (molars take more force than bicuspids), the size of the filling relative to the tooth (smaller fillings will usually be more durable than larger fillings), and how teeth are cleaned and maintained daily.
- Resin CompositeTooth colored fillings which are made from durable plastics called composite resins. Similar in color and texture to natural teeth, the fillings are less noticeable, and much more attractive, than other types of fillings. Tooth colored fillings are actually bonded to teeth compared to silver / amalgam fillings, which are not.
- VeneersDental veneers are custom porcelain covers for your teeth. Veneers are a long term solution to changing the color of your teeth, to close spaces, straighten teeth and to restore broken, chipped or fractured teeth. Veneers are natural looking and strong, and provide beautiful healthy looking smiles.
- CrownsDental crowns have been a common treatment for many years, and they traditionally involve a two-step process of an exam and taking of impressions of the tooth, followed by the placement of the crown at a second appointment. In between is a waiting period while the crown is actually being made in a laboratory. That can mean days, or even weeks between appointments, plus additional fees for laboratory work.

- Restorative DentistrySpringfield Dr. Nhien Lu has built a reputation as a leading dentist in family, cosmetic and restorative dentistry and emergency dentist serving Springfield & Burke, VA.
- Root Canal TreatmentRoot canal therapy with Dr. Lu removes blood vessels and nerves from a tooth which may be infected and/or damaged. A root canal infection can be caused by several things including decay, injury and possibly also gum disease. Root canal treatment or therapy may be the only way to repair your tooth if it has been badly damaged by infection.
- Periodontal SurgeryPeriodontal surgery was once difficult and painful, necessitating many office visits and a long recovery time. Today, laser technology allows us to treat gum disease effectively and quickly with minimal pain. You can resume normal activities almost immediately!
- Deep CleaningNon-surgical treatment, or “scaling and root planning” is a deep cleaning treatment performed on your teeth and gums using local anesthesia. During treatment, Dr. Lu uses a vibrating ultrasonic device to scrape tartar from the visible part of the tooth. To get the harder-to-reach tartar beneath the gum line, a curette is used to probe and clean out the pockets formed around the tooth. During or after treatment antibiotics or antimicrobial rinses may be used to promote healing.
- DenturesAn estimated 45 million Americans currently wear full or partial dentures also known as prosthetic devices. These prosthetic devices allow our patients to complete their smiles, but also have inherent drawbacks. Some of these drawbacks include changes in the supporting bone that cause the denture to become loose or ill fitting requiring messy creams and some discomfort. Implant supported dentures can create a modern alternative to traditional dentures.
- Dental ImplantsAlthough nothing is better than your own permanent teeth, dental implants by far are one of the best options to replace multiple missing teeth.
- Oral SurgeryHow does bottlemouth syndrome happen? When your child drinks from a bottle that contains anything other than water—including juice or milk—the acids that these drinks produce in the oral cavity negatively affect tooth enamel. When tooth enamel is weakened, bacteria can cause the decay process or even an infection. Your child may even need oral surgery to correct the decay in bottlemouth syndrome [1].
