DETAILS

Our Mission: Help our patients to return to active lives, through compassionate, evidence-based spine care, including non-surgical treatment options and the most technologically advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques.

General Info
The problem with spine care is that care is highly fragmented and biased, explains Dr. James Lynch. Too many times, the patient receives recommendations and a treatment plan that is strongly biased to the type of physician seen. If a person goes only to a spine surgeon, there is a strong likelihood that the person will receive a prescription for surgery. By having non-surgical spine specialists involved, the back and neck pain sufferer is provided many treatment options that can relieve symptoms without surgery. Physical therapy and injection therapy are the two most common tools used by a spine center to help patients recover from back or neck pain without surgery. A physician who fails to use these non-surgical options may only be increasing the need for surgery. Spine surgery should be the last option to explore. If surgery is necessary, after non-surgical treatment options have failed, the spine center uses the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques and instrumentation for spine that can enable a patient to have their spine surgery in the morning and be home later the same day to recover in the comfort of their own home. New innovations in spine surgery made way for the opening of SpineNevadas Minimally Invasive Spine Institute. Now, 90% of our spine cases can be performed with a minimally invasive approach. Only major deformity and trauma need conventional open procedures, explains Dr. Lynch. He has been using minimally invasive surgery techniques since 2002. Dr. Lynch was the first neurosurgeon in Reno to perform MIS-TLIF and MAS-PLIF procedures as well as the first to perform both cervical and lumbar artificial disc replacements

Services/Products
SpineNevada Minimally Invasive Spine Institute acts as a regional referral center for patients from across the northern Nevada and northern California region. We take a multidisciplinary team approach to spine care, involving nonsurgical spine physicians, spine surgeons and spine-specialized therapists. This means our health care team of professionals will pool together their expertise to develop the best treatment for each patient. As a multidisciplinary spine center, SpineNevada includes professionals in physical medicine and rehabilitation and a fellowship-trained spine neurosurgeon. It has physical therapy, injection suite and X-ray capabilities under one roof. We provide all the necessary diagnostic testing and treatment in one place, eliminating the need for multiple referrals, delayed care and confusion Sometimes surgery is the best treatment, especially for those suffering from herniated discs, spinal fractures, spinal deformity, spinal tumor and scoliosis. However, it is estimated that over half of back surgeries performed are unnecessary, and in some cases, even counterproductive. In most cases at SpineNevada, surgery is used as a treatment option only after nonsurgical treatments have been attempted. Our physicians have advanced training in back and neck pain and are often successful in helping people return to activity without surgery. SpineNevada is able to take care of any type of back or neck problem from the simple back or neck strain, all the way to the most complex spine surgery.
