Est. 1968 In 1986 Marla and Meir Puni purchased their modest 1,500 square foot store, in a quaint shopping mall, in South Pasadena, California. In the early days, the restaurant offered soups, sandwiches, salads, frozen yogurt and our (ever popular) signature apple walnut muffins. The vitamin and grocery departments started small but were well suited for the health conscious consumer. Learning about the individual customers needs and how to suitably meet as many of those needs as possible was, and remains, one of the biggest challenges Marla said, and I know that our lives are enhanced by the experience. The past 35 years has brought about many changes for Grassroots Natural Market & Kitchen. The Puni family added three children, Raechel, Noah and Talia (all three kids work in the store) and the store itself has undergone three complete remodels, which doubled our size and staff. Over the years we have integrated more and more sustainable practices within our operation. It is paramount that we all do what we can as individuals to preserve our natural environment and here at Grassroots this is a very serious subject. All of the changes that have taken place within our humble little store prove that our loyal and supportive community has embraced our mission to provide health and happiness for everyone. What started as a small-scale eatery and market has blossomed into a cozy cafeteria-style food counter that satiates large crowds daily. We are constantly listening to recommendations from our patrons. Our choices have become as varied as our customer base and we take pride in that fact. We believe that Grassroots is an extension of the Los Angeles community, and we have grown in symbiosis with our customers. Here at Grassroots we provide an assortment of homeopathic remedies, vitamins, herbs, specialty grocery items, homemade food, allergy sensitive products and tantalizing juices matched with a knowledgeable, caring and dedicated staff. Whether you have been a customer since we opened our doors, or it is your first time with us, we will make sure you feel at home and are taken care of. We understand that every person is different and what may work for one person may not work for the next.
