Kennecott Utah Copper is one of the largest copper producers in the United States. The company supplies more than 10 percent of the United States refined copper requirements. It is in the business of mining, concentrating, smelting, refining and tailing of a variety of natural resources, including gold, silver, sulfuric acid and molybdenum. The company produces over 300,000 tons of copper annually and employs nearly 1,800 staff members. Kennecott Utah Copper operates the Bingham Canyon mine, Copperton concentrator and Garfield smelter complex. The company is owned by Rio Tinto, which is one of the leading, international mining groups and deals in aluminum, copper, coal, gold, iron ore, industrial minerals and diamonds.
