Established in 1912, the South Bend Medical Foundation is a health care facility that offers diagnostic and laboratory testing services for communities throughout Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio and Illinois. It performs hematology, coagulation, biochemistry and immunochemistry testing. The South Bend Medical Foundation s blood bank services department collects more than 15,000 blood units annually and offers donor testing, blood component processing and transfusion service. It provides packed red blood cells, random platelet concentrates and frozen plasma, as well as conducts several blood drives at business offices, schools, churches and community organizations. Additionally, the facility performs microscopic diagnosis for cancerous and precancerous lesions in gynecologic and biopsy specimens, such as spinal fluid, urine, bronchial washings and sputum. The South Bend Medical Foundation maintains a location in South Bend, Ind.
