By 2004, the Company achieved a significant breakthrough and created the Biomerix BiomaterialTM, a revolutionary biointegrative synthetic tissue scaffold.The Biomerix BiomaterialTM is a cross-linked, reticulated polycarbonate polyurethane-urea consisting of an open-cell, three-dimensional, fully-accessible, interconnected macroporous structure. This novel structure translates into an ability to support predictable, organized fibrovascular tissue ingrowth without encapsulation and fibrotic scarring. Relevant competing technologies in the implantable porous biomaterials space largely consist of biologic extracellular matrices ( human or animal derived ), thermoplastic polycarbonate polyurethane biomaterials, "older-generation" porous materials, and degradable polymers.
