Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind Inc
General Info
Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, founded in 1946 and based in Smithtown, N.Y., provides guide dogs free-of-charge to blind people seeking mobility and independence. The organization also trains students from throughout the United States and many foreign countries and offers individualized instruction for students with special requirements. It additionally trains hearing-impaired blind people as well as physically challenged people. The organization is supported by donations from individuals, corporations and foundations and does not receive any government funding. The campus consists of administrative offices, students' residence, kennel and a puppy nursery. The eight-acre site also includes an obstacle course and a Japanese garden.
