Upstate karate is the place to go if you want to do karate. They don't care about anything else there focused on you. And trying to make you better each day!!
Was a great school until the Wonderboy started fighting in the UFC. Took my kid out after three years. It should be labeled an MMA school. They use plenty of non-employee teenagers to instruct the kids...I wasn t paying them to instruct my kid, I expected the actual instructors. You spend a ton of money on patches and new Gi s with belt advancement...which is guaranteed. It s nothing to see students forget there moves during belt testing. Check out other schools before you sign up with this school. Everybody in Simpsonville pretty much knows about Ray Thompson's Mafia Don attitude. Just ask the numerous instructors he has lost.
My 5 year old went to a birthday party there last week. The party host (older teen and possible young college student?) was very nice and energetic. I was expecting there to be some karate teaching of some sorts like another local karate place does for there bday parties but really it was just two hours of dodge ball and running around. However they did serve the cake and juice boxes and even wrote down the bday boy's presents. At the end the kids were exhausted and happy so that is all you can really ask for.
Let me first start off by saying that upstate is not a daycare. Yes, they offer an afterschool program. My son started little dragons last July and I have to say that he has gained so much from his intense training. You could not ask for a better instructor (role model) than Ray Thompson (Mr. T). His staff handles every matter in a very professional manner. I have nothing but good things to say about Upstate Karate.
This is an okay school but more of a daycare than a karate school based on the service we received. They were also very unprofessional when I ended our contract. I paid them a 90 day cancellation fee and 9 months later they are still trying to collect money from me. I have given them proof that I have paid them a 90 day fee and they argue over what 90 days is. They do not handle issues in a professional manner at all.
